My mom was hustling in the kitchen, and dad just rolled in from somewhere asking for a cup of coffee. Yep, in our culture—or at least in this house—we drink coffee like it’s water. Anytime, whenever we feel like it.

Mom, just like any classic housewife, is getting ready to make a cup of coffee. But first, she was all caught up sorting out the chili she picked from our backyard.

She stepped away from her work to whip up a coffee for Dad. It was just another regular thing I’d see around the house. Mom always had his back, no matter if she was busy with something else.

She asked my dad to find her phone; I actually know where it is. That phone just sat on the couch where I am sitting, but I did not answer.

My dad, just call the phone. My mom’s phone is ringing.

“Ah, it’s there,” Mom said.

Dad did not stop the call, even though he also knows where the phone is.

Keep dialing

I’m just sitting and watching the phone ring.

“Ok, ok, I know it is there; can you stop?”

Dad is still calling.

“……,” just watching the bickering like teenagers.

Sometimes life is funny. Do you all remember how old their marriage is? I guess it could be more than 40 years, filled with countless memories and experiences that have shaped their lives together. Yes, I don’t know when they got married; they can’t remember it either. They are 67 and 73 years old now, and their journey has taught them the importance of patience, love, and laughter throughout the decades.
